Mission Statement

The program at the Institute of Mathematics at LMU Munich provides students with a foundation in mathematics and covers in-depth topics from a wide variety of subfields of mathematics: algebraic geometry, analysis, mathematics education, financial mathematics, artificial intelligence, mathematical physics, stochastics, and topology. Exercises, tutorials, and individual advising further contribute to a motivating learning environment.

  • In our bachelor's and master's programs in mathematics, we gently introduce our students to current research, starting with the fundamentals.
  • The bachelor's program in Mathematical Economics and the master's program in Financial and Actuarial Mathematics are well-established degree programs in high demand—challenging, yet offering excellent career prospects.
  • For student teachers, we combine in-depth mathematical content with modern teaching methodology—always with an eye toward the demands of their future classrooms. Specialized lectures, practice-oriented teaching methodology courses, and guidance during school-based teaching practicums ensure a solid and thoughtful preparation for the teaching profession.
  • Students in other fields also benefit from our wide range of mathematics courses.
