Analysis, Mathematical Physics and Numerics
Semiclassical Analysis, Many-Body Quantum Systems, Random Schrödinger Operators
Description of the Working Group
The Analysis, Mathematical Physics and Numerics Group at LMU Munich is dedicated to both teaching and research, covering a wide range of topics at the interface of mathematics and physics. Our work is motivated by fundamental questions in theoretical physics and their rigorous mathematical formulation.
One major research focus is semiclassical analysis, particularly the study of eigenvalue problems for a broad class of Schrödinger operators. These investigations originate from quantum mechanics, where they are linked to the spectral properties of atoms and molecules and to fundamental questions such as the stability of matter.
Another central theme is the study of ground-state and low-temperature properties of many-body systems, with applications ranging from Bose–Einstein condensates to fermionic systems in both high- and low-density regimes. This includes the mathematical analysis of phenomena such as superconductivity, where quantum effects manifest on a macroscopic scale.
In addition to deterministic models, we also investigate random Schrödinger operators, which play a key role in understanding the effects of disorder and randomness on quantum systems, such as localization phenomena.
