FAQ

New ID, ID Renewal

To use the research workstations (WAP) at the Institute of Mathematics, you need a username. This username is separate from the LMU username, which is assigned centrally by LMU.

We are currently revising and formalizing the policies and processes related to the creation of department accounts. As a result, there will be new forms and rules for creating new department accounts in the future.

Automatic Notification

Starting about two months before your WAP ID expires, you will receive a weekly email informing you that your ID is about to expire and that you may need to apply for a renewal.

Student Computer Network (CIP)

The CIP computer network is operated by the Mathematics Institute's computer center for students of mathematics, geophysics, crystallography, and mineralogy. The workstations are located in the basement rooms BU135 and BU136 (K35, K36) and in room B115 (1st floor).

User ID

To use the CIP’s computers, you need a separate user ID. Your campus ID does not work here. Mathematics students receive an ID after a roughly 45-minute introductory session. You can register for these introductory sessions at the beginning of the semester via Uni2work. Students of geophysics, crystallography, and mineralogy receive their IDs during lab sessions and courses.

Permanent ID numbers from the Department of Mathematics (starting with "md") are automatically renewed as long as you are enrolled in a mathematics degree program (HF/NF/UF/EF Mathematics or the TMP Master’s program). ID numbers that do not meet these requirements by the renewal date (once per semester) will be deactivated. The same applies to permanent IDs in geophysics, crystallography, and mineralogy.

Terms of Use

The CIP Mathematics Pool’s Terms (PDF, 31 KB) of (PDF, 31 KB) Use (PDF, 31 KB) apply. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the computer labs. Each user must agree in writing to comply with these Terms of Use. Any violation of the Terms of Use will result in the revocation of user access privileges.
